SkiVenture History

On October 1st, 2023, Wildline Media Productions released their short film “Take Me to Ski Venture” to a crowd of folks at Wolf Hollow Brewing Company. This film shows the uniqueness of Ski Venture and shares a bit of why it has existed for almost 100 years.

Summer 2009

From the 2009 Ski Venture Newsletter

We are sure that you have committed the last two SkiVenture news letters to memory so it will be no surprise that we have been working on a land trade with our neighbors Marty and Amanda Philips. We traded 1.7 acres containing the lower road which in the past we had leased, for 0.2 acres along our west boundary. The newly acquired land is also the site of the new groomer shed. The 0.2 acre parcel that we are giving up is in the woods to the skier’s left of the green slope. That portion allows the Philips to connect two otherwise disconnected fields. This deal has been finalized and the deeds have been filed, and just in time. Now the Philips property has a sale pending. We plan to greet the new owners and hopefully interest them in skiing and riding.

Fall 2023

During the 2023 off season, Ski Venture Members completed a long capital improvement project by replacing old, worn out, wooden lift line poles with updated metal poles bought from Ridge Runner, a now-closed ski hill in Glenville that ran similar to Ski Venture. The new-to-us poles were cemented into the ground and will last longer than many of us will be around. This kind of sustainable improvement and planning will help to keep Ski Venture in operation for a long time to come.

Summer 2011

In the effort to provide a location at the top of the main hill where folks can gather, view the whole ski slope, and get out of the weather, in the summer of 2011 we will be constructing an Adirondack Lean To similar to the one pictured. This structure will be a great place to watch the skiers on the hill, or spend an overnight, winter or summer.

Winter 2008

From the 2008 Ski Venture Newsletter

The 2007 -2008 season was the first year grooming with the SkiVenture groomer. The 2002 Skandic was purchased three years ago as a "box of parts" requiring both work and the purchase of a couple critical components to make it operational. We were able to locate the final part late last fall. With a couple of late nights in the barn, a bruised knuckle and a shot of starting fluid the groomer became functional.

In 2009 we plan to build a groomer building adjacent to the lower trail on the new acquired property. This building will function both as a home for the groomer and a building to store firewood. Nick Kudlacik is in the process of proposing this construction project to the Boy Scouts as his Eagle Project. If accepted construction is expected to start in late spring / early summer of 2009.
